Treat
the other man's faith gently;
it is
all he has to believe with.
His
mind was created for his own thoughts,
not
yours or mine.
~ Henry S. Haskins
And so
faith is closing your eyes and following
the
breath of your soul down to the bottom of life,
where
existence and nonexistence have
merged
into irrelevance.
All
that matters is the little part
you
play in the vast drama.

is a pain too lonely to know

May it
not be that, just as we have to have faith in Him, God has to have faith in us
and, considering the history of the human race so far, may it not be that
''faith'' is even more difficult for Him than it is for us?

A Hospice social
worker asked me about six weeks ago if I would mind visiting with
a 53 year old terminal cancer patient at Life Care. I tried to find a way
to "reach" Margaret, but I couldn't seem to find a common ground nor could I
find something she wished to discuss. Yesterday was a different
story! My visit started out the usual way, but suddenly Margaret was
telling me about her hopes, her fears, her conversations with God.
Amazing!
I had not been able
to decide which Lectionary reading and theme to use for this
week's OPQs. When Margaret started talking about her strong faith that still
harbored doubts, my decision was made for me. Another example of
a "coincidence" that isn't a coincidence!!!
