David's Lament

1After the death of Saul,   ...   17David intoned this lamentation over Saul and his son Jonathan. 18(He ordered that The Song of the Bow be taught to the people of Judah; it is written in the Book of Jashar.) He said: 19Your glory, O Israel, lies slain upon your high places! How the mighty have fallen!

19:  "Oh, oh, Gazelles of Israel, struck down on your hills, the mighty warriors--fallen, fallen!" -   "In the years that have followed David's victory over Goliath, David had become a hero, moved into the palace with Saul and his family, grown to be close friends with Saul's son, Jonathan, and had married Saul's daughter.  Eventually, Saul grew to see David as a threat.  Through a jealous rage Saul attempted to kill David and then put a bounty on his head, driving David to flee into the wilderness for ten years.  In these verses, David does not rejoice that his arch enemy has been defeated.  Instead, he reaches out to Israel and teaches them a song that laments the loss of a great king."

but by the things you have for which you would not take money.

35While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader's (Jairus) house to say, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?" 36But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, "Do not fear, only believe."

("The phrase, 'Do not fear, only believe,' is a bridge leading us from the strength of faith as illustrated in the 'bleeding woman' to a lesson on maintaining faith for those who have lost hope.")
