1In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness
of Judea, proclaiming,
2"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come
near."

Nothing is
more precious than peace.
Peace is the
most basic starting point
for the
advancement of humankind.
~ Daisaku Ikeda
Five
enemies of peace inhabit with us -
avarice,
ambition, envy, anger, and pride;
if these were
to be banished,
we should
infallibly enjoy perpetual peace.
~ Francesco Petrarch (1304-1374)

Peace, to have meaning for many
who have only
known suffering in both peace and war,
must be
translated into bread or rice, shelter, health and education,
as well as
freedom and human dignity.
