Integrity
Mark places this
gruesome tale just after the sending out of the Twelve.
A somber reminder of the cost of
discipleship.
When Herodias'
daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests; and the king
said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it.” And he
solemnly swore to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even half of my
kingdom.” She went out and said to her mother, “What should I ask for?” She
replied, “The head of John the baptizer.”

The self is not
something ready-made,
but something in
continuous formation
through choice of
action.
~ John Dewey
The ultimate measure
of a man
is not where he
stands in moments
of comfort and
convenience,
but where he stands
at times of challenge
and controversy.
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.*
JAK and Woofie wore their
Fourth of July scarves when they came up last Sunday.
JAK has a
very thick coat.
Woofie has a very
curly coat!
Van (who owns the
lovely log home) had a bear in her back yard on
Tuesday!
Her neighbor, Chad Chisholm
(a professional photographer), managed to get a picture of
it.
Bryce showed the
Wednesday Breakfast Group what he made at Philmont Scout Camp
in New Mexico. They were there
during one of the camp's Family Weeks. Bryce is
our youngest breakfast member and is wearing a shirt that Carmon made for
him.
Even though I don't get to
see my sister-in-law, Dottie, and Brother Jack
very often, at least I get
pictures of them!
Dottie is on the right,
wearing black. Nice picture, Dot!
(Yes, it was a wine-tasting
party.)

At the lake this morning,
there were myriads of water droplets gathered
on the mesh covering the
plants in the garden by the falls. A sparkling
fairyland!
With courage you
will dare to take risks,
have the strength to
be compassionate,
and the wisdom to be
humble.
Courage is the
foundation of integrity.
