Salt and Light

[Jesus said:] "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. "You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfil. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

Persons appear to us according to

the light we throw upon them

The only way we really create change

is to enter any situation with the humility to listen

and to recognize the world as it is,

and then the audacity

to dream what it could be.

We had a WONDERFUL time in Missouri …

well … for the most part.

We were greeted in Abbi and Charles' home in Ozark, Missouri, by Peyton.

Alas.

When we left, Vicki put Peyton to bed with a compress over his eyes:

We spent the whole time EATING!!!

Angie Pinegar, Carol Pinegar, Abbi Pinegar Rose, Charles Rose

after dinner at the Country Club.

Chance demonstrated his reading skills.

The rolls were delicious!

And they were "throwed."

Since we were in Ozark, Missouri, there was plenty of Moonshine in the stores.

On Saturday afternoon we went to a Missouri State game.

Boomer the Bear, Missouri State's mascot, came to Abbi's suite

to greet the kids … and Vicki Hall and me.

Saturday evening we went to Keeter Restaurant at the

College of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri.

The college is most interesting.

They charge no tuition for full-time students

due to its student work program and donations.

Abbi and I ordered salads because we weren't very hungry

and we were each served enormous portions!

Back home in Colorado

Jeanne Gibbard and I enjoyed lunch in Arvada

 and then "The Mousetrap"

at the Arvada Center.

Then we saw Parallel Lives at Miners Alley in Golden.

Both actresses are from Evergreen.

If we are not active as part of a whole,

working toward a higher goal,

we will deteriorate inwardly and outwardly.

Only if our hearts are in a task greater than ourselves

will we thrive in earthly matters too.

Society will deteriorate, physically and spiritually,

unless each of its members has a task to fulfill

for the sake of the common good.
