Celebrated May 14:

Ascension of the Lord

May 17:

Sanctified in Truth

Looking up to heaven, Jesus prayed, "I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything you have given me is from you; for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours. All mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I have been glorified in them. And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them in your name that you have given me. I guarded them, and not one of them was lost except the one destined to be lost, so that the scripture might be fulfilled. But now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves. I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one. They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth.”

"What they asked me to do was to suggest in a great processional the idea of a never-ending line of great scholars, thinkers, and teachers - saints that represented the best that man has recorded, and which are found represented in a library. The thought was that the various periods that are suggested in the theme have unfolded in the continuous process of one generation giving to the next. I put Christ at the top with the disciples to suggest that He is the great teacher - that is really the thematic idea." -Sheets.

Sheets first made a painting of the design, and the Cold Spring Granite Company translated the design into a pattern of over 6,000 separate pieces of varieties of stone from around the world.

The waters have receded a bit.

Many places have sandbags in place.

Grandfather Nazor had a picture of men filling and piling sandbags along the Ohio River in the early 1920s or earlier.

They would have been astounded with the truckloads of sandbags that have been delivered

along the banks of Bear Creek.  It is still a lot of work today to place them!

In spite of the high waters and poor weather conditions, the cement base of the

connector trail leading from the lake to downtown has now been installed.

in a skit at Rotary on Friday morning:

A mature woman was driving on the highway.  Her daughter called her on her cell phone and in a worried voice said, “Mother, be careful! I just heard on the radio that there was a car going the wrong way on I-70!” The woman said, “I know, but there isn’t just one, there are hundreds!”  The daughter said, “Pull over and stop your car: I’ll be right there!”

BUT …

The mother turned the tables and it was her daughter who was led off in handcuffs.

Scott spoke to us in 2011 when the spacecraft was first launched

and, on Friday, gave us an update.

Scott is also the son-in-law of our Rotary President, Sam Smith.

We “tried” to paint a model (in the red blouse) in our Saturday workshop.

I am certainly not used to having a live model.
